18 year old substitute teacher Jeremy Mullins sentenced for sexual assault on student
Yes, he was 18 years old, and was a substitute teacher at a high school. Vermont loses. Evidently, in Vermont, anybody who has graduated high school and can pass a background check can be a substitute teacher.
Allegedly Mullins met the eighth grade female student when he was a substitute teacher in her class. The girl reportedly had a crush on Mullins, and later on they exchanged emails. The girl admits that some of Mullins emails made her uncomfortable, saying things such as 'maybe we could have a little fun … I think we could meet up in the door stairs and figure something out.'. Also police obtained a copy of a sex survey that Mullins sent the girl to fill out. Probably one of those stupid ass MySpace surveys random people on your friends list send you and you delete immediately.
In April of 2007, the girl was dropped off at the school for a play, and Mullins was there. The girl got into Mullins' car and they drove to another parking lot, where Mullins is accused of raping the girl.
Mullins was sentenced to 5 years suspended on the sexual assault charge and a 1 year sentence with all but 90 days suspended for the prohibited act charge. Mullins admits to raping the girl in the parking lot.
Reportedly the state of Vermont is 're-thinking their policy' of letting any random asshat with a high school education teach students.
