William Pickerel, the 72 year old substitute teacher at Kennewick High School, in Kennewick, Washington, who taught in the school district as a history teacher for nearly 50 years, has pleaded guilty to two counts of third-degree child molestation and two counts of first-degree sexual misconduct with a minor.

Pickerel was arrested in October 2007 on allegations of sexual misconduct with a 16 or 17 year old student, whose sex was not reported. The incidents are said to have taken place during unsanctioned trips that Pickerel paid for himself, taking students to sporting events.

Pickerel was released on $100,000 bond, and then re-arrested on allegations in Benton county. The Benton county charges were dropped in his plea agreement with King County prosecutors, who are asking for a 10 year prison sentence due to the nature of his crimes, using his position of authority over the students. A normal recommendation would be 5 years.

Pickerel will be sentenced on June 20th.
