Alain Cupas sentenced to 30 years in prison for molesting female student
Alain Cupas, 30 year old former wrestling coach and security guard at Everglades High School in Miramar, Florida was sentenced to 30 years in prison, followed by 15 years of sex offender probation.
Cupas was found guilty by jury trial in January of lewd or lascivious molestation of a 15 year old female student at Everglades High School. It took the jury only 30 minutes to deliberate to come back with the guilty verdict.
Cupas and the alleged victims father reportedly got into a scuffle during one of the court proceedings. Cupas and his attorney say the girls father lunged at Cupas and threw several punches. The girls father denies this, saying that Cupas family members attacked him first, after saying “You are going to pay”.
Cupas was arrested after he was tasked with escorting the girl to the portable classroom where in school suspension students are held, after the girl was given the punishment. It was alleged that while escorting the girl to the classroom, Cupas pulled the girl into the athletes “ice room”, where they go to get ice, and forced his tongue into her mouth, rubbing on her genitalia over her clothes, and also attempted to have sex with her.
The girl refused and while going back on their way to the portable classroom, Cupas allegedly said “This is between you and me”. Cupas will be 55 years when he is eligible for release from prison under Florida laws and regualtions.
