She faced up to 15 years in prison. Morris was originally arrested on 5 felony counts of first degree rape of a 17 year old male student. Morris and the boy had sex a total of 5 times at Morris' home, even twice outside in the backyard! Morris posted a $100,000 bond and was released.
Shortly thereafter she plead guilty to 3 lesser counts of third-degree felony unlawful sexual conduct. Hell of a plea deal there Lou.
This is ridiculous. The amount of leniency in this case makes me sick to my stomach. I could (and have, before the haters start hating) do 30 days in jail with my god damn eyes closed. Facing 15 years in prison and get...30 days in county? Screw that. Double standard needs to stop, now.

The double standard needs to STOP right here. The 29yo male teachers who boink the 17yo sweeties should get 30 days too. Fair is fair right?

THAT is the double standard i'm talking about. sure, i would have banged the life out of a couple of my teachers, and bragged about it until the day i died. i woudlnt have felt violated or anything like that.
but the fact is, its illegal. whether you're 17, or 12, or 18 in some states. law is law. make it uniform. give the male teachers 30 days, or give the female teachers prison time, like the male teachers get.

yeah, or not. clearly, the police realize the age of consent. judging from the fact that i run this site, and have learned a thing or two about laws since then, teachers banging their students are exempt from said ages of consent, based on their "power over students".

... I think she should have gotten zero time. Just because it's law doesn't mean it's right to jail her. Double standard? Pfft. There's a big difference between raping a minor and having sex with one, and your head has to be completely full of air to think that this kid didn't consent... 5 times.

Don't be silly. Prosecuting her is like sending people to jail for feeding the ducks at a park. I'd love to give her a mustache ride. Maybe you should go back to Victorian era England. We shouldn't prosecute the male teachers, either.

If she is going to give it to one student she should give it to all of them. If I had a hot teacher hit on me at that age I would have been on top of the world even if I didn't get any. The boy was 17. He would have been legal in a few months anyway. the only thing I really see her as doing wrong is misuse of authority. It could be argued that she used her position. Of course thats stupid but it would at least be a viable argument. I know this is an unpopular statement but boys and girls are different. Like it or not its true. In honesty there isn't enough information here to make a valid case either way.

If the teacher had been male, all hell would have broken loose, and not only from the police, but the family, community, and the online response would have been through the roof! And would most of you agree with it?
Imagine, a 29 year old male teacher having sex with an socially immature, naive, misled, targeted, abused 17 year old.....male!!!!!
If this had been the case instead, there would be cries of "Boys (or young men in this case) don't know what they want when it comes to sex....with males!" "He was abused!" "This is a travesty of justice!" "Sure he came back 5 times, but it's abuse!"
Of course, he was after some female "parts", so "Woohoo, good for him!"
Or maybe not. Maybe young men (16+ is the age of consent in this case) know what they like, know what they are doing, and can get into it? Whether it's male/male or male/female?
Be honest, though. If the teacher had been male, you would be screaming for his head on a platter, all because it was a male teacher instead.

Statutory rape in Utah is 14.
Age of consent in Utah is 16.
"Unlawful sexual conduct" with a minor is until they're 18, and only if you're more than 10 years older than the minor. If she'd been 27 instead of 29, there would have been no breaking of the law whatsoever.
There is no double standard. This kind of sentencing is routine. Leave the lawyering to the lawyers.
