Former beauty queen teacher arrested for having sex with student

Christel Gravlin, the 33 year old 10th grade english teacher at Lisbon Central School in Lisbon, New York has been arrested and has pleaded guilty to third degree rape. Gravlin was originally arrested after an incident at a school basketball game at which she blurted out that she was banging one of her students, to a group of ... students. That's smart. Students never talk or spread rumors.

It is reported that Gravlin had sex with the boy at her home at least once. Her sentencing was set for May 5th, however it was postponed until May 19th in lieu of her attorney needing time to gather information to help in her sentencing.

Gravlin is married and has two children. She is also the former beauty pageant winner in St. Lawrence County. That must have been a long time ago.

Gravlin faces 1-4 years in prison.

Christel Gravlin has been sentenced to 120 days in jail, 10 years of probation, and $1,300 in fines/costs. A hearing will be held in June to determine Gravlin's sex offender classification.

Update -- 06/26/2008
After being sentenced to 4 months jail time, Christel Gravlin was classified as a Level I sex offender, meaning that she is not likely to be a repeat offender.
