James Van Valkenburgh, NY teacher sentenced to prison for sex with 16 year old

42 year old social studies teacher, James Van Valkinburgh, the former social studies teacher at Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart in Eggertsville, New York was sentenced today for 3-9 years in prison.

The judge called Van Valkinburgh "despicable" before ordering the sentence. Van Valkinburgh was arrested in October of 2007 after investigators found he was having sex with a 16 year old female student. Van Valkinburgh was arrested on 8 counts of 3rd degree rape, two counts of third degree sexual abuse and one count of child endangerment.

Van Valkinburgh pleaded guilty in March of 2008 and admitted to having sex with the girl 3 times in September and October of 2007. The victims father is quoted as saying "monster who brutally violated my daughter.". The girl and her brother requested the harshest sentence possible.
