Kevin Goddu pleads guilty to assault for raping student
45 year old Kevin Goddu, a former teacher at Timberlane Regional High School in Plaistow, NH has plead guilty to 2 charges of misdemeanor assault, following a lengthy legal battle. Goddu was arrested in June of 2007 on 14 counts of felonious assault, for allegedly raping a 16 year old female student.
Goddu’s lawyer reported that the two had been in a consensual relationship, and that there were witnesses to contest to that theory. After 9 hours of deliberations, in December of 2007, Goddu’s fate ended in a Mistrial, with the jury deadlocked at 5 voting guilty, 7 voting innocent.
Goddu eventually made a deal with prosecutors, which involved him pleading guilty to 2 simple assault charges. He was sentenced to 12 months in jail, suspended based on 2 years of non-reporting probation. Goddu will not have to register as a sex offender, although it is reported that he will undergo sex offender therapy. Goddu will also no longer be able to teach in the state of New Hampshire.
