A Chronicle of teachers behaving badly, teacher sex scandals, and other indiscretions

Douglas Hunt, a 51 year old art teacher at Shepherdstown Elementary School in Shepherdstown, West Virginia as well as the boys soccer coach at Jefferson High School in Shenandoah Junction, West Virginia was charged in a US District Court in Virginia on charges of enticement of a minor and travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct.

It is reported that Hunt had not been teaching at the schools since early December, and they do not expect him to return. It is further reported that the incident did not involve a child from either of the two schools.

Hunt is reportedly being held in a federal detention facility in Virginia.

Hunt has pleaded guilty to sexual enticement of a minor, and will be sentenced to at least 10 years in prison on May 22nd, 2008. Hunt will also be under supervision for as long as life, will have to register as a sex offender for life, and will be required to surrender any teaching licenses or certificates.

62 year old Thomas Gellatly, a teacher at McMillian Magnet Middle School in Omaha, Nebraska has been sentenced to 5 years in prison for his August 2008 guilty plea to receiving child pornography.

Gellatly was arrested after the German National Police identified over 100 americans that had received child porn, Gellatly being one of them.

After executing a search warrant on Gellatly’s home, agents found images on his computer featuring children naked from the waste down. Gellatly will be on supervised release for 5 years after his prison sentence is completed.

James Kearney, the 37 year old physical education teacher at Joyce Kilmer Elementary School in Trenton, New Jersey, as well as a coach at Princeton High School in Princeton Township, New Jersey has been arrested on charges of 2nd degree sexual assault.

It is alleged that Kearney had a sexual relationship with a 17 year old female student. Police turned to Kearney after a tip came to the school administrators about the relationship.

Kearney has been released on a $50,000 bond, and has been suspended with pay from the school system.

42 year old Robert Goetz, a special education teacher at The Carver Learning Center, an alternative school, in San Angelo, Texas has been indicted on charges of improper relationship between educator and student.I t is alleged that Goetz had a sexual relationship with a female student.

Goetz, who was also formerly a juvenile probation officer, was released on a $5,000 bond and could face up to 20 years in prison for his charges. Goetz took administrative leave from the school after the investigation started in August 2008.

Joe Gilbreth, the 42 year old color guard instructor at Magnolia Independent School District in Magnolia, Texas has been arrested after allegations of him soliciting sex from a 16 year old male former student.

Gilbreth was a color guard instructor at Westwood High School in Austin, Texas where he met the boy, and later on communicated with him via facebook, and later via cell phones.

Reportedly Gilbreth has admitted to exchanging inappropriate messages with the boy on December 10th, 2008. After the boy turned him in, Gilbreth was charged with online solicitation of a child, and could face up to 10 years in prison.

43 year old Daniel Johnson, an industrial arts teacher at West Tisbury School in West Tisbury, Massachusetts, as well as EMT of the year working for Tri-Town Ambulance Service, has been arrested on allegations that he provided alcohol and pornographic materials to minors while hosting parties with underage students at his home.

Johnson has been charged with 5 counts of furnishing alcohol to minors, 1 count of assault and battery and 2 counts of disseminating obscene material to minors.

Johnson was investigated after the father of a student went to the police with concerns of an adult, namely Johnson, providing his son with alcohol over a period of time. After the investigation started into Johnson, more parents came forward with similar concerns.

Johnson is being held on $5,000 bond, has been placed on administrative leave from the school, as well as Tri-Town Ambulance Service.

48 year old Brian Morgan, a janitor at Mansfield Elementary School in Mansfield, Georgia has been arrested after allegations of child pornography found on his computer.

Police obtained and executed a warrant after they received information that Morgan was trading and sharing the pornographic photos online. Morgan was charged with 2 counts of sexual exploitation after police say they found multiple files they believe to be child porn.

Morgan is being held on a $20,000 bond and has been fired by the school.

Elizabeth Gaddy, the 45 year old MILF 7th grade social studies teacher at Callaway Middle School in Hogansville, Georgia has been arrested after allegations of a sexual relationship with a 13 male student. Gaddy has been charged with child molestation and aggravated child molestation, along with enticing a child for indecent purposes.

It is alleged that Gaddy and the 13 year old boy had had an ongoing sexual relationship for several months, having sex at Gaddy’s home and on dirt roads, oddly enough. Sounds kinky.

Gaddy was arrested after parents notified authorities, showing concern for her behavior. Possibly because they were jealous she still had a tight butt at the age of 41. Gaddy will remain in the county jail with NO bond until her next court date February 12th, 2008.

22 year old Jonathan Ruana, a teachers aide at Community Day School in Santa Ana, California has been arrested and charged with unlawful sexual intercourse. It is alleged that Ruana had sex with a 16 year old female student.

The alleged incidents are said to have happened between June and July 2008, at Ruana’s home in Santa Ana.

Reportedly, Ruana has not worked for the school system since June. Ruana pleaded not guilty at his arraignment and was released on $20,000 bond.

59 year old Eric Achenbach, a computer and graphic arts teacher at Brattleboro Union High School in Brattleboro, Vermont has been arrested on charges of possession of child pornography after a couple of hunters discovered what police say is Achenbach’s stash in the woods.

The hunters reportedly found a plastic storage container in the woods and after making sure there was no money in it, found there was actually child porn in it. Not being the Deliverance type, they notified police.

Police connected Achenbach to the plastic case by finding items with his initials on them, as well as a picture of him standing in front of an elementary class in 1981.

After being contacted by the police, Achenbach reportedly admitted that the case was his, and that he hid it out there after moving about 7 or 8 years ago. Achenbach further stated that he was aware the storage bin contained child pornography. And just to top it all off, he also figured he’d mention the child porn contained on the computers in his home.

Achenbach is not believed to have produced any of the child porn, nor is he believed to have physically assaulted any children.
