A Chronicle of teachers behaving badly, teacher sex scandals, and other indiscretions

Kelly Parker, the 42 year old Principal of Meridian High School in Meridian, Texas has been arrested and charged with improper relationship between educator and student, after he allegedly sent text messages to a 17year old female student.

The messages Parker allegedly sent are reported to have included such topics as his genitals, and his sexual abilities. Reportedly, one of the messages sent to the girl said “it’s been a long time since we had a principal student relationship”. Hmm, could he be referring to the meta data all over this very site? Who knows…

What is known, at least allegedly, is that Parker offered the girl money for sex, hugs, and kisses. According to reports, the 17 year old female student in this case babysat for Parker’s children on more than one occasion, and the girl says that often Parker would give her cash, and gifts. Gifts such as the very cell phone that Parker is accused of sending the text message to.

Parker was released on $25,000 bond after the girls brother found the cell phone after the girl left it at home on accident. The girls brother brought the improper text message to the authorities, and Parker was subsequently arrested.

Jesse Madrigal, the 27 year old former anatomy and physiology teacher at Alexander High School in Laredo, Texas has been arrested on charges of sexual assault and indecency with a child.

A former student of Madrigal’s came forward, now 19, and alleged that she and Madrigal had sex when he was 22 and she was 15. It is reported the alleged incident took place off campus.

Madrigal is being held on a $140,000 bond.

34 year old Scott Dietlin, an economics and history teacher at Casa Grande High School in Petaluma, California has been arrested on allegations he tried to seduce what he thought was a female student via email and facebook, including allegedly setting up a meeting place and time with the minor.

What usually happens in these situations? A federal agent or some other police officer at the other end of the intertubez, right? Well, this time it was two kids that made a fake facebook account with this young girls picture on it, and tricked the teacher into thinking he was talking with an underage girl.

The boys notified police after they realized something wasn’t quite right, who then got Dietlin to arrange a meet-up. Police arrested Dietlin when he showed up to the designated meeting spot. Dietlin has been charged with sending harmful matter with the intent to seduce a minor, attempting to contact a minor with intent to commit a sexual offense and arranging to meet with a minor with intent to commit a sexual offense. He is being held on a $700,000 bond.

40 year old Michael Johnson, a substitute teacher at the Community of Peace Academy in St. Paul, Minnesota is being held in the county jail after allegations that he viewed adult pornography on his computer while class was in session.

Johnson is being charged with distributing pornographic images to children, reportedly because numerous children between 14 and 15 years old say that Johnson allowed them to look at the porn on his computer.

Agents executed a search warrant on Johnson’s home where they took DVD’s and a computer from the home. The school says that Johnson will not be called to substitute while the charges are still pending.

31 year old James Dyer, a former history teacher and soccer coach at Brazosport High School, in Freeport, Texas has pleaded guilty to possession of child porn. Dyer was sentenced to 10 years of probation, $1,000 fine, and 160 hours of community service.

Dyer will also have to register as a sex offender for life and be banned from holding any job that would put him in contact with children under 17 years old.

Dyer was arrested after a Department of Homeland Security found his information along with others’ purchases of access to child pornography websites after obtaining records from PayPal.

Dionysios Shallan, Jr, a former track coach at Oakmont High School in Roseville, California has been sentenced to 3 years and eight months in prison after being accused of sexually assaulting two girls. Shallan was reportedly also a substitute teacher in the Roseville Joint Union High School District.

Shallan plead guilty to 4 counts of oral copulation, 2 counts of lewd acts upon a child with a 10-year age difference, and 1 count of sexual penetration with a foreign object.

The incidents are reported to have taken place between 1999 and 2005 against two girls, one of them a member of Shallan’s track team, and the other girl belonging to a different school.

Claire Richards, a 35 year old math teacher at Jordan High School in Columbus, Georgia has been arrested after several months of investigation into her alleged sexual relationship with a male student.

Richards was arrested and charged with 17 counts of contributing to the deliquency of a minor, 2 counts of sexual assault on a person in custody, and 4 counts of interference with custody.

Richards was released on a $17,500 bond. Reportedly, Richards has been placed in an administrative position within the school, away from students, while the case against her is pending/

49 year old James Atkinson III, a music teacher and the head of the fine arts department at West Deptford High School in West Depford, New Jersey has been arrested with 12 other suspects in a New Jersey child porn sting.

It is reported that none of the 13 people were connected to each other, however they had all downloaded what police to be child pornography.

Atkinson has been charged with endangering the welfare of a minor, 4th degree. If convicted he could face up to 18 months in prison.

36 year old Odis Moreton Jr., a former math teacher at First Coast High School in Jacksonville, Florida has been arrested on charges of sexual battery involving a 16 year old female student.

It is alleged that Moreton exposed himself to the girl as well as grabbing her crotch, and making explicit remarks. Moreton was reportedly arrested in relation to a 1997 rape case, but was never prosecuted so the school had no reason to take action against Moreton.

Moreton resigned from the school in October 2008.

40 year old Michelle Farley, a psychology teacher at Borah High School in Boise, Idaho has been arrested and charged with 2 counts of sexual battery. It is reported the alleged victim is a 16 year old male.

Farley reportedly admitted to police that she and the boy had sexual contact multiple times between May 2008 and October 2008.

Farleys bond has been set at $10,000 on the condition she have no contact with any minors under the age of 18 with the exception of her own children. Farley’s position in the school system is still being determined by the school board.
